Asus P5E3 Premium motherboard running 16GB RAM :)

I wanted to build a VMware ESXI 5.0 host using an old Asus P5E3 Premium motherboard that I had lying around from an older rig. The problem is that 8GB of memory is a bit of a squeeze for an ESXI host. So I was wondering if 16GB would actually work, as the mobo has 4 DIMM slots. I searched all over the net and couldn’t really find a definitive answer.
The P5E3 Premium mobo is based on the Intel X48 chipset. Officially it supports a maximum of 8GB RAM, which means 2GB sticks in each of the 4 DIMM slots.
So I thought I would try 4GB DIMMs out of my main rig just for the hell of it. And what do you know, it works!
I settled on cheapo Corsair ValuSelect RAM, as performance was not my goal.
The model of the DIMM’s are CMV8GX3M2A1333C9. (2 x 4GB DIMM)
  • DDR3 1333
  • Timing 9-9-9-24
  • Cas Latency 9
  • Voltage 1.5V
Total Cost is around US$70 or £60 for 16GB RAM (2 kits)
It feels good to ressurect old hardware and put it to good use :)

I have this board:

so also 4 slots. Do you think I can have more than 8GB then?

I can't get mine to register over 4gigs. Not sure if using windows 7n is the issue or not.

Would this also work on the P5E3 Deluxe Wifi??

Can you share your BIOS settings for this RAM confoguration? Maybe screenshots or photos... I'd go for the same Corsair RAM model for my P5E3 Premium Wifi-AP@n motherboard to get the full package of 16 GB RAM. Thanks!

Hey, I just bought two 2x4GB kits of Corsair CMV8GX3M2A1333C9 and installed onto my P5E3 Premium Wifi-AP@n motherboard. But there's something wrong, because the BIOS didn't start. Even my LCD dispay wasn't able to wake up during the start - no beeps, just nothing. Please, any help? (I rather put back my 2x2GB OCZ RAM and everything works fine again...)

@Marek Václavík, have you make it alive in your case? The reason I'm asking is that I've got the same problem (
